Saali Kuata
Charlie Gordon
Saali has a passion for photography and circus. He learnt the ropes as a social circus instructor in 2015 with the CIRQINIQ social circus program and taught social circus to Inuit youth in Nunavik. Saali then went on to become the assistant coordinator for the camp in 2016 and ensured it was the best experience for the youth every year.
With a growing passion for circus and when the right opportunity came along, he and his friends created the first Nunavik Inuit circus troupe. They chose the name Tupiq A.C.T. (Arctic Circus Troupe). Tupiq is an Inuktitut word which means ‘tent’. The troupe was created in August 2018 and it has already performed in various festivals. Tupiq A.C.T aims to preserve and promote Inuit Culture and Traditions and combine them with contemporary circus arts with the ultimate goal to empower Inuit through this art-form.
Saali’s experience and passion with photography first started as a hobby to capture memories, from then on, he saw an opportunity to then create the perfect image with the help of his trusty camera.
